Support at Home, Made Simpler

The aged care system changed. Your care shouldn't have to feel complicated because of it.

If you or someone you love has been assessed for aged care support recently, you have probably come across the term Support at Home. It replaced Home Care Packages as the way in-home aged care is funded in Australia, and understandably, a lot of families are still working out what that means for them in practice.

The short version is this: the program is designed to help you stay in your own home, with support matched to what you actually need — and to change as those needs change. Rather than one fixed package, funding is organised around the level of support you have been assessed for, and it is used to arrange the services that make daily life manageable.

What tends to worry people is not the care itself. It is the paperwork, the unfamiliar language, and the feeling of having to become an expert in a system you did not ask to join. That part is where we spend a lot of our time. We will sit down with you, go through what you have been assessed for, and explain in plain terms what it covers and what it doesn't.

Highfield Care delivers in-home aged care and support across Noosa and the Sunshine Coast, and we help you navigate and get the most from your Home Care Package. That means going through your assessment with you, explaining what your funding will and will not stretch to, and being straight with you about the parts of the system that are genuinely confusing.

We also work with people who are paying privately, and with people still waiting on an assessment outcome. You do not need to have your funding sorted before you talk to us.

Common Questions

What is the Support at Home program?

Support at Home is the Australian Government program that funds in-home aged care. It replaced Home Care Packages as the way this care is funded, and it is now how government-funded home care services are arranged. The program is built around helping older people stay living at home, with support matched to what they have been assessed as needing.

What is included in support at home?

Depending on your assessed level of need, support can cover everyday help such as domestic tasks, personal care, meal preparation, getting out and about, social support, and respite for carers. The exact mix is matched to what you need and can change over time.

Do I need an assessment before you can help?

For government-funded support, yes — an aged care assessment determines what you are eligible for. You are welcome to talk to us before that happens, though. Many families contact us while they are still waiting, simply to understand what is coming and what questions to ask. We are also happy to arrange care on a private basis in the meantime.

Can I choose who comes to my home?

Yes, as much as we can make it so. We introduce carers before regular visits begin, and we work hard to keep the same small group of familiar faces coming to you. If someone is not the right fit, tell us and we will change it — no awkwardness required.

Do you provide support in my area?

We currently work across Noosa Shire and the Sunshine Coast. If you are just outside that, get in touch anyway — we will tell you honestly whether we can help or point you somewhere that can.

Most people who contact us are not certain what they need yet. That is completely normal, and it is a fine place to begin. Send us a message and we will walk through it with you — no obligation, no pressure.
